Serenata Winds was formed in 1998 from professional freelance musicians and post-graduate music students of the Birmingham Conservatoire, to perform at Symphony Hall as part of the 'In Symphony' chamber ensembles series for the 98/99 season. The 'In Symphony' ensembles provided pre-concert and interval foyer music for the audience of the International Concert Series. The first season of performances for the quintet required a tremendous amount of repertoire, hard work and commitment, but as a result the quintets' wide and varied repertoire, musicianship and professionalism has seen them invited to play all over the UK.
As members of the prestigious 'Live Music Now!' scheme founded by Yehudi Menuhin, the quintet have taken their music into hospitals, schools and day care centres to play concerts and run workshops.
The quintet made their Symphony Hall recital debut in July 2000 as part of the prestigious Coffee Concert Series and their London Purcell Room debut in 2002.. They have played for the NATO summit as well as giving recitals in the Winter Concerts in East Yorkshire Series, Stratford-upon-Avon English Music Festival, Concerts in Warwickshire Churches Series, Shropshire Music Series.
This year Serenata Winds are delighted to be artists in residence at the University of Wolverhampton.
